Research Associate (Fixed Term)
Cambridge Digital Humanities (CDH) invites applications for a part-time (0.5FTE) Research Associate position to begin on 1 January 2025. The role will be fixed term until 31 July 2025.
The role holder will lay the groundwork for the expansion of the Cambridge Data Schools programme, with particular focus on the Cultural Heritage strand. Working at the interface between DH and public education, the postholder will be able to use their research expertise to develop a participatory design methodology with external stakeholders and an alumni network.
The Cambridge Data Schools programme, hosted by Cambridge Digital Humanities (CDH), consists of in place and online training programmes designed to equip participants from diverse professional, cultural, educational, and academic backgrounds with the digital skills, tools, and methods needed to work with data and to generate an understanding of ethical practices in digital research.
The Cultural Heritage Data School brings together participants involved in the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector. It offers participants the chance to develop practical skills and approaches, and to explore ethical issues involved in making the most out of collections through digital means. Working with experts, participants explore methods that can be used to create, visualise, and analyse digital archives and collections.
The Social Data School trains participants in using the tools and methodological approaches to develop data-intensive public interest investigations, collaborative projects, and academic research.

The main responsibilities of the role holder will be as follows:
- Developing critical and practical mixes as a mode of pedagogy
- Expanding content to encompass collections and media arts foci
- Running workshops and pilots to test out teaching formats and topics ¿ including practice or arts-based research, cultural analytics and creative coding, in live, online and blended learning environments
- Developing potential course materials for an expanded GLAM school programme
- Working closely with CDH team, Director of Learning, and Data Schools teaching team
- Exploring new partners, audiences, with a focus on community organisations
- Contributing to the teaching of the cultural heritage data schools running in Spring 2024.
