Junior Animal Technician
We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Animal Technician to join our busy biofacility team in Cambridge.
Working under supervision, you will be involved in the daily care, welfare and general husbandry of animals including the provision of food and water, changing cages along with general cleaning duties to maintain the hygiene of animal accommodation as well as the general upkeep of the facility. You shall carry out regular observation, health checks and basic procedures, keeping necessary records and inputting data onto computer systems.
You will enjoy working with animals, with previous experience working with or caring for animals in a work or voluntary capacity. You will be organised, able to work as part of a team and communicate with individuals at all levels. You will have a good general education with GCSE English, Mathematics and a Science (or equivalent), specific Animal Management / Animal Behaviour or Institute of Animal Technology qualifications would be an advantage. Experience working in a laboratory setting would be desirable but is not essential.
This role is physically demanding requiring regular and repetitive movements including lifting, carrying and manual dexterity. You will also be expected to take part in an overtime rota to cover for the welfare of the animals on weekend on Bank Holidays (approx. 1 weekend in 3).
The post is available immediately and subject to the satisfactory completion of a 3 month probationary period.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check. In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
