Community Manager and Project Coordinator (Fixed Term)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Manager and Project Coordinator to join our team in the Green Algorithms Initiative in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, one of Europe's leading academic departments of population health sciences. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate, who is proactive and self-motivated, with exceptional communication and project management skills, and who has experience in managing or developing Communities of Practice (CoPs).
You will play a crucial role in making the Green Algorithms Initiative a success. As the Community Manager and Project Coordinator you will be responsible for:
Community management: The development of Communities of Practice (CoPs) around green computing is one of the major components of the Green Algorithms Initiative. This includes the new Environmentally Sustainable Computational Science (ESCS) community (https://www.escs-community.org) as well as domain specific CoPs when appropriate. You will support this work by managing, maintaining and contributing to community resources, including coordination of newsletters, meetings, and yearly conferences. You will consult effectively with communities and their representatives to develop an understanding of their requirements and will advise the Green Algorithms Initiative Lead on how these requirements can be translated into action. More generally, you will take the lead in creating and developing initiatives to support the community in ways they find beneficial.
Project coordination: You will coordinate the day-to-day running of research programmes within the Green Algorithms Initiative, track progress of the programmes against objectives, and following up with internal and external stakeholders as necessary. The research programme involves a network of collaborators across the UK and Europe, and you will coordinate the activities of the different researchers involved both within the group and across the partner institutions, facilitate collaboration and visits, and coordinate the reporting to funders and stakeholders. You will also support the dissemination the main outputs of the project to the wider scientific community, and organise and coordinate different events coming out of the Green Algorithms Initiative.
The Green Algorithms Initiative (http://www.green-algorithms.org/), led by Dr Loïc Lannelongue, is a world-leading project in the field of green computing focusing on quantifying and reducing the environmental impacts of computational science through open-source resources. The tools and frameworks developed and maintained by the group are used internationally and include the popular Green Algorithms online calculator, server-specific monitoring tools and the GREENER Principles for Environmentally Sustainable Computational Science. The Green Algorithms Initiative has received both nominations and awards for its contributions to environmentally sustainable research (e.g. HDR-UK Impact Award).
The role sits within the Operational Team at CEU, led by Ank Michielsen (Strategic Operations Lead), working under the supervision of Dr Loïc Lannelongue. You will work in close conjunction with the senior scientists in the Green Algorithms Initiative, including Dr Loïc Lannelongue and Professor Michael Inouye. You will also work closely with other members of the Department and scientific collaborators based in other institutions.
This is one of several roles being recruited to expand the Green Algorithms Initiative. You can find a description of the other roles here: https://www.green-algorithms.org/join-us
