Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Genetics, located in central Cambridge. The project, led by Dr. Alex Cagan, will employ state-of-the-art technologies, including laser-capture microdissection, ultra-accurate NanoSeq mutation profiling, and long-read sequencing, to map somatic mutational landscapes across different cell types in diverse primate species. The goal is to answer fundamental questions about somatic evolutionary processes and their relationship to primate life-history.

This position is funded by an R01 grant and involves collaborative work with Dr. Peter Sudmant's lab at UC Berkeley and Dr. Raheleh Rahbari's lab at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

As part of the project, you will develop and apply methods to generate and analyse comparative somatic genomic datasets. These datasets will be used to study mutation rates, signatures, and clonal dynamics in somatic tissues. The project is ideal for someone with experience in comparative genomics who enjoys a combination of wet and dry lab work.

Why join us? This position offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of evolutionary genomics research, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries in the emerging field of somatic evolution. You will work with a world-class team of experts in a stimulating and supportive environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field. Proficiency in somatic mutation analysis or comparative genomics is highly desirable. Training in laser-capture microdissection will be provided. Strong analytical skills, a deep interest in evolutionary genomics, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team are essential.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
