Assistant to the Business and Operations Manager


The Department:

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) is a vibrant and dynamic department, home to approximately 60 academic staff, 100 contract researchers, and a dedicated team of 25 Professional Services staff. It offers a friendly and engaging work environment, where the Professional Services team takes great pride in fostering an inclusive, supportive culture. Their efforts play a crucial role in enabling world-class research and teaching across a wide array of disciplines within applied mathematics and theoretical physics.

The Role:

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic administrator to assist the Business and Operations Manager (BOM) with her diverse range of responsibilities. In this role, you will handle a variety of administrative tasks and provide secretarial support, including managing diaries, coordinating meetings and events, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and maintaining and distributing key information. You will also contribute to several important initiatives, such as administering a career support scheme for postdoctoral researchers, reviewing travel and IT funding applications for PhD students, and serving as the primary contact for university cards, Zoom licenses, and telephony services within the department.

Additionally, you will play a key role in drafting a regular newsletter for staff and students, as well as supporting Faculty-level projects focused on promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. As a vital member of the DAMTP Professional Services team, you will also assist colleagues when needed, including supporting the HR team with recruitment activities and helping the Undergraduate Office during peak exam periods. This dynamic role involves a variety of responsibilities and is ideal for someone looking to build a career in Higher Education professional services.
