Network Engineer - Internal Candidates Only

The Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS) is looking for an articulate, self-motivated and proactive individual to join the Infrastructure Team. The successful applicant will be working in a team of 5 staff, who manage the network infrastructure for 3,600 supported users, based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and other sites across Cambridge. CSCS is a rapidly expanding department offering staff exciting and varied challenges, and has a track record of providing excellent career progression and training opportunities.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to the development and the improvement of the IT infrastructure, with particular responsibility for networks including network design, installation and maintenance, security and firewalls, and wireless infrastructure. S/he will also provide some third line support with occasional evening and weekend work. There is a limited requirement for being on-call for out-of-hours emergencies (approximately 1 week in 6).

Applicants are expected to hold a degree or equivalent (or be able to demonstrate a comparable level of skill and experience) and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The chosen candidate must have demonstrable knowledge and significant experience in at least 2 of the following areas:

  • Data and voice networks
  • Cisco network equipment
  • Network security technologies (e.g. Cisco, Fortinet)
  • Wireless infrastructure

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in developing new systems and services. Additionally, s/he is required to have experience of liaising with contractors and working according to the principles of project management.
