Research Associate (Fixed Term)


A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available within the group of Professor Sir Stephen O'Rahilly at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS), focussing on role of LXR alpha in the control of hepatic health. The successful candidate will make extensive use of metabolic studies in genetically modified mice. The role is funded through an unrestricted award from the Novo Nordisk Foundation

Scientists are encouraged to apply if they have substantial practical experience in manipulating and studying the control of metabolism in mice. Applicants should have a background in studying metabolic physiology. The role holder will be responsible for running their own research projects and will work with a small group of post docs and PhD students who have overlapping expertise.

Major responsibilities will be:

  • Leading Murine phenotyping including studies of body composition, endocrinology, food intake behaviour and glucose tolerance.
  • Exploring the molecular and cellular basis for murine phenotypes using state of the art tools of cell and molecular biology.
  • Contributing to the design and execution of follow-on experiments using tissue-specific and temporally controlled manipulation of murine genes expression.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38 £32,982) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of your PhD award.
